If there's one thing that I find inspiring, it's a city.

I can understand why many people find cities stressful. Busy, crowded, loud buzzing hives of human activity, a jumbled mess of lights and images. I think these are all reasons I love a city so much.

A large town or city never entirely sleeps. There is always someone doing something, when one person drops into their bed another tugs on a coat and steps out into the cold air and noise. There's the little details brought about by constant activity; scuffs, chipped paint, stains, rust. Every mark on a building is like a bruise on a body, with its own story of how it came to be.

It's hard to put into words, I guess. But dense civilisation is something I find very much intriguing. I'd love to have a little city apartment one day, preferably high-up, so as to see lights at night.

Anyway I only started thinking about it because Jamie Oliver was on telly visiting back-alley New York cafes and I felt immediately inspired to draw. Inspiration comes from odd places sometimes!
